This Is More Than You'd expect. Palm Springs Movie Review!

Palm Springs is a movie that comes off as a silly film with a tired premise but in reality, Palm Springs is one of the most refreshing films I've seen all year.

I won't lie, the first 5-10 minutes were really questionable for me because the film just felt too familiar to a lot of other comedies that seemed to have a similar story but once this film implements the aspect of this movie that makes it unique in comparison to those other movies that's when this film really takes flight. Palm Springs stands out compared to the other films that have also used this endless day storytelling trope because it implements it into the story in a very clever way and it shows when you have the right idea to match with the trope it can be something that really works for a film.

Of course, Palm Springs is a hilarious film and it definitely helps that it has that little Andy Samberg wild touch here and there that really keeps you on your toes because, in great Andy Samberg fashion, you never know what crazy stuff might pop up next. I really couldn't imagine anyone aside from Andy Samberg tackling this role because he has that really unique charm to himself that I haven't really recognized in any other comedian or just actor in general and that charm really fits into this film perfectly. Obviously, it also helps that Andy Samberg is a fantastic and underrated actor who killed it in this film because he's shown time and time again that he is fantastic at balancing complex emotions with more light-hearted comedy in a really realistic way and he uses this skill a lot in this film.

Another thing I loved about this movie was how great the writing is. The dialogue felt real, the jokes were perfectly implemented and really funny, I especially loved how genuine all the character dynamics and relationships felt. I mean the film is just really well written and that especially goes for the story. I'm a huge story guy and I'm always impressed when a film is able to take two hugely complex, real and delicate themes and successfully do each of theme justice equally in a way where you can leave the film not only feeling satisfied on how the film went but you also leave the film thinking about yourself and your own life afterward because of how connected you feel to the film.

This film isn't just about love and finding that special someone but it's more so about you finding yourself and finding the strength to take that giant leap to the next stage in your life and leaving that comfortable stage that you haven't even realized you've outgrown and that's the reason I love this movie. Palm Springs is so reflective of real-life that at times you might find it difficult to not see yourself in the main characters' position and at times it may even be hard to watch because of that painful reflection. Palm Springs also does an incredible job at handling the themes and ideas of its story in a way that is really captivating, fun, emotional, and in a way that makes sense without being super obvious and treating its audience like idiots.

At the end of the day, Palm Springs is easily one of my favorite films so far this year and though it has a couple of minor flaws throughout the film it's the incredible sensibility of its ideas and a strong connection to its audience creates a very impactful, captivating story and a great watch. The entire cast is absolutely incredible in this film and the chemistry between Andy Samberg and Cristin Milloti was absolutely incredible and everything from the editing to the writing in this film was on point! I also really liked the aesthetic to this film, I felt like it had a really sharp summery romance vibe which really worked in the film's favour as well. I really did enjoy this film and I felt like it was a really witty and smart film with a great sense of comedy that could really work for anyone so I'd definitely recommend this film!
