I've watched pretty much every Pixar film that Pixar has ever made and yet I don't think I've ever had so many conflicting opinions about one after watching one in the way I did about this movie. Onward was weird to me because despite it's simplistic approach to the themes the film deals with it still managed to catch me off guard from time to time.

Originally I was really excited to watch this film when the information was first being released and the trailer dropped but as we got closer and closer to the release I just steadily losing interest in watching this movie because I had this weird feeling that it was going to be a little too silly or even bland and the truth us in some ways that is true and this film definitely has its flaws but there were so many fantastic redeemable qualities that by the time the film ended those flaws barely came to mind when thinking about this film.

Like I said earlier this film does tackle its issue in a very simplistic and on the nose way but I love the overall message of the film so much that it doesn't even really matter. The whole adventure aspect of the film was fun, obviously a little silly and over the top at times but the whole world-building aspect and exploring this new place and species was pretty refreshing and something I've always applauded Pixar for. The film is also pretty funny at times with some solid jokes and the film did a fantastic job of developing the story and balancing the different complex emotions the characters experienced through this journey. What I loved about Onward was it's a film that you can have fun with while emotionally connecting to the film and characters and really find yourself rooting for them.

At the end of the day, Onward was filled with a ton of heart and charm! The movie isn't extraordinary in any way and isn't very complex in the way other Pixar classics such as monsters inc or the toy story franchise is but Onward has a fantastic message and story with some incredible characters. This is a movie that will last in a lot of people's memory for a while and with the incredible ending is a film I believe will grow to be more and more appreciated over the years. The pacing was great and the voice acting was much better than I ever expected it to be. If you want a movie that anyone of any age can sit down and enjoy then this is the film for you but warning you will go through a rollercoaster of laughing and crying as this film does take you through quite the personal journey.
